  Personal Note from the President:

Welcome back to a brand new school year and one that promises to be a great one. We have some new faces on the PTO for this upcoming year. Please join me in welcoming our new PTO Executive Committee members: Dailey Wilkinson as 1st Vice President, Lisa Grimm as Treasurer, Rosie Swanson as Head Room Representative and Alisa Andrews as Committee Liaison. We appreciate their willingness to serve on the Executive Committee and welcome their new ideas and fresh perspective.

We are integrating a couple of changes this year:
• Our Newsletter will be distributed twice per year rather than monthly. Please remember to always check this page of the school website for important PTO news. This includes important dates, upcoming events, archived minutes of the PTO Executive Committee meetings, etc. We will also be utilizing the school's new Email-Blast to communicate important events and dates, so please check your email for E-Blast from CKCS on a monthly basis.

• The PTO will offer a Child Protection Certification class on Tuesday, August 23rd , from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. at CKCS in Assumption Hall. This class is for new parents or parents who have not been previously trained. Please remember that you must establish or renew your Child Protection Program Certification in order to volunteer on campus.

Again, I welcome you to a brand new school year and look forward to working with all of you to make this year, a great one!

Marlene Rathle, President
Christ the King Catholic School PTO

Thank You

The PTO would like to thank all of our volunteers that make Christ the King Catholic School such a special place. There are many volunteers who spend endless hours helping in many, many ways around our school. Thank you to Amy Faherty and Jill Roh who have already put in lots of hours this summer getting ready for our annual Pumpkin Festival. Also, a great deal of thanks to Kristi Bailey and Lorna Mayr who are working diligently on our annual King's Supper Fundraiser. Also, thank you to all parents who signed up for various committees at Back to School Night.

The theme for Catholic Schools Week 2012 is "Catholic Schools: Faith. Academics. Service." The annual observance starts the last Sunday in January and runs all week, which in 2012 is January 29 to February 5. The theme focuses on three priorities that Catholic schools establish that make them stand out from other educational institutions. Children are taught faith - not just the basics of Christianity, but how to have a relationship with God. Academics, which in Catholic schools are held to very high standards, help each child reach his or her potential. Service, the giving of one's time and effort to help others, is taught both as an expression of faith and good citizenship.

PTO Meetings for 2011-2012

There are two general meetings each year for our PTO.  Our fall meeting will be held in conjunction with our Meet the Teacher meetings during the first week of school.  We are planning a spring meeting on a date to be announced later in the year.

Special Events

The PTO hosts several special events throughout the year. We just held our annual Back to School Night. Thank you to all who attended. Grandparents Day is scheduled for October 21 in the gym. Please encourage all Grandparents to attend this special day. There will be special performances by all classes in honor of the Grandparents in attendance. Grandparents will be given the opportunity to visit the students' classrooms at the end of the program. Refreshments will begin at 9 a.m. with the student program beginning at 10 a.m. Invitations will be sent home with the students so that they can personalize and send to their Grandparents.

Fundraising Event

Pumpkin Festival is our annual fall fundraising event. It is a great family event to be enjoyed by all ages. The year's Pumpkin Festival is scheduled for October 23. Our chairpersons for this event are Amy Faherty and Jill Roh. They are planning some big changes this year. First, the Haunted house is coming back! The 8th grade class will be in charge and it is certain to be a big hit. Second, the raffle is bigger and better. They are selling only 100 tickets priced at $100 per ticket. If all tickets sell, the winner will have a one in one hundred chance of winning $5000! Buy one ticket for your family or go in with other families and buy one together! The odds are great and the benefits to the school are even better.

Our annual King's Supper is scheduled for November 17th. PTO and Booster Club are hosting this event. Our chairpersons for this event are Lorna Mayr and Kristi Bailey. A big thank you to these two ladies for taking on this project. It is an all adult event that features great food, entertainment, and a silent auction. It is a great opportunity to get together and fellowship with others while supporting the school at the same time.

Ongoing Events

Hot Dog Lunch is the last Tuesday of every month beginning September 27th . Please note that special lunch is offered on Monday, Wednesday, and Fridays.

Volunteer Opportunities

There are many other ways to volunteer at Christ the King Catholic School. Some of the committees that are coordinated by the PTO are as follows: Brown Envelope, Little Field Day, Garden/Spruce-Up Committee, King's Supper, Room Moms, Milk/Ice Cream, Playground Supervision, Pumpkin Festival, Traffic Duty, Uniform Closet and Sale, Welcome Wagon, Yearbook, Catholic Schools Week and Hot Dog Lunch. Please consider sharing your special talents with your child's school. It truly is a rewarding experience.
