The Library Media Program at Christ the King Catholic School
is committed to the success of its students, enabling them to become effective users of information and lifelong learners
preparing for the 21st Century. Through collection development, teacher collaboration and student instruction,
the library works to support the curriculum, facilitate information literacy skills, foster literature appreciation, a love
of reading, and promote social responsibility. LIBRARY
CHECK-OUTS Last year we had about 7,000 books checked out. We love that our students are such great readers.
We hope to beat that check out number this year so get ready to use your library card! REMINDER Any overdue books are fined on a daily basis.
Your teacher should have the list of students who owe books and fines to the library. The cost
to replace any lost or damaged CKCS library book is $25.00.

WELCOME TO THE CKCS LIBRARY

Library Information
Thank you for visiting the library section of the CKCS webpage.
This is my first year as the school librarian at Christ the King, and I couldn’t be more thrilled to be here!
All students come to the library once a week as a class to checkout books, read, listen to a story, do library research
using text and computer resources, and/or work on projects. It is a beautiful facility with approximately
10,000 books purchased to enhance the curriculum and foster a love of reading.
BOOK FAIR
INFORMATION Our 2011 Book Fair was very successful. We had total sales of $8,535.12 and a profit
of $1,957.48, plus we received $352.60 in book credits with Scholastic. Thank you to Mrs. Coate, all the volunteers and all parents
for your generous support! With the money we will be able to purchase many new books to enhance our collection,
the AR tests for most of these books, and supplies to process and maintain our collection. At CKCS we utilize the Accelerated Reader program to promote and encourage reading.
The minimum points required for Accelerated Reading are determined by the classroom teacher. The
library acknowledges the efforts of students who read and test on far more than the minimum with the Top Reader Awards (grades
3-8) and Outstanding Reader Awards (grades 1-2) as detailed on this webpage. Please email me at library@ctheking.org if you have any questions about our library or the Accelerated Reader program. God Bless, Mrs.
Emily Coate LIBRARY WISH LIST

CKCS ACCELERATED PROGRAM
At CKCS we utilize the Accelerated Reader program to promote and encourage
reading. The minimum points required for Accelerated Reading are determined by the classroom teacher. The library
acknowledges the efforts of students who read and test on far more than the minimum with the Top Reader Awards (grades 3-8)
and Outstanding Reader Awards (grades 1-2) as detailed on this webpage.
If your child wants to read and take an AR test for a book we don’t have in our library, they can bring the
book to Mrs. Coate and she will see if there is a test available. Tests can be purchased for $3.00 or,
if you are willing to donate the book and it is suitable for our library, we may be able to wave the test fee.
The CKCS Top and Outstanding Reader Programs were created to reward
students who go well beyond minimum reading requirements established in the classroom with the Accelerated Reader Program.
Please note that participation in the program is optional at all grade levels. To earn Top Reader status, students must earn the number of points listed below by the May deadline each year.
3rd Grade – 100 points 4th Grade – 130 points 5th Grade – 175 points 6th Grade – 225 points 7th Grade – 275 points 8th Grade – 350 points Top Reader is meant to reward individuals for independently reading books at or above grade level. Only books
one grade level below (or higher) will be counted for Top Reader Points (Unless the classroom teacher has established different
criteria). Students in grades 1 and 2
are eligible to earn Outstanding Reader Status. Outstanding Readers must earn the following points by the May deadline
each year. 1st Grade – 25-49 points 2nd Grade – 50-74 points Students
who achieve Top Reader or Outstanding Reader will be invited to a party in the library at the end of the year and receive
special benefits in the library
